OUR STORY

Hector Saldivar grew up in Northern Mexico. Hector's mother - known affectionately as Tia Lupita ("Aunt Lupita" in Spanish) to family and friends - was proud to have perfected the family hot sauce recipe, the original of which had been carefully handed down to the women in the family over generations. Perfected indeed - Tia's hot sauce was in high demand from the people who were lucky enough to have tried it. They asked her to sell it, and she demurred, enjoying instead to make it for family and friends. When Hector moved to San Francisco, California, Tia would ship him bottles of her hot sauce, to make certain he always had a piece of home with him. Soon, those packages became anxiously-awaited deliveries as friends discovered Tia for themselves. Hector went back to Mexico and asked for his mother's blessing for his idea to bottle the sauce for all to enjoy. The sauce is named Tia Lupita in her honor to honor his mom and the legacy of the family recipe. Tia's likness on the label pays homage to her most-loved trademark: wearing a curler on her head while she cooks to keep her bangs out of her eyes!

HOT SAUCE

The stuff that made us famous.

Seven simple ingredients make Tia Lupita® Hot Sauce amazingly complex and well-rounded (just like you).

The deep, rich flavor of perfectly ripened red chili peppers is balanced with toasted spices and the brightness of distilled vinegar. Drizzle it on sandwiches, soups, tacos, fried chicken – anywhere you want a kick of flavor.

No binders or preservatives. Every bottle of Tia Lupita Hot Sauce contains all-natural, non-GMO and gluten-free ingredients with no added sugar and very little salt. But lots of awesomeness. Lots.

SALSA VERDE

...it just made sense...

Not too hot. Not too sweet. Tia Lupita® Salsa Verde is Hector's Mom's original recipe for green hot sauce. You’re gonna love the bright, punchy mix of ripe tomatillos and mild green jalapeños, blended into smooth salsa perfection.

Our Tia Lupita® Salsa Verde goes with everything. Well, maybe not on breakfast cereal. But it is fantastic with meats, poultry, seafood and soups, or anything wrapped in a tortilla. Hector has even been spotted spooning it over ice cream, but that might just be him.

No binders or preservatives. Every bottle of Tia Lupita® Salsa Verde contains just six all-natural, non-GMO and gluten-free ingredients with no added sugar and very little salt. But lots of awesomeness. Lots.

CHIPOTLE

...how could we not?

Remember the 90’s? Seinfeld, Friends, the CD Discman, flannel shirts, grunge rock, and fanny packs? Well around that same time Chipotle hot sauce was introduced to America and became all the craze. But then something happened; it started to evolve into so many other things like Chipotle Aiolis, Chipotle dressings, Chipotle Mayo, and all of a sudden this great tasting hot sauce lost its originality. Well, we are bringing it back with our Tia Lupita® Chipotle Sauce. This is Chipotle as it was meant to be . . . full-bodied, robust, tart, smoky and sweet with just the right amount of heat. We source and use only local ingredients in order to guarantee the best quality and it shows! Try it on: Rice and Beans, Burritos, Steak, Ribs, Fried Chicken and Tacos.

Opuntia Ficus-Indica. Huh?

YES! You are in the right place. Opuntia Ficus-Indica is the fancy name for one of the main ingredients of our tasty tortillas and totopos, also known in the BARRIO as Nopales! This type of cactus is the oldest food in the North American continent. Native Americans, Aztecs and Mayans have been eating Nopales since the dawn of their civilizations. And they had to as it was not easy living back then. They needed a food that could provide the super nutrients essential to survive in the roughest living conditions. So, it’s not surprising that in 2017 the Food and Agricultural Organization of the UN (also known as FAO) named the Nopal cactus the plant of the future! Why? Think about it, as we are facing tremendous and catastrophic climate change, the Nopal cactus can grow in the harshest conditions - in arid deserts or mountainous rock waste lands. Our good friend Ficus-Indica is the model for sustainable food! And better yet, he also happens to be delicious.
TOTOPOS TORTILLAS

TORTILLAS

...the new kid on the block...

Have you ever wondered if you could eat tacos all the time, morning, day and night? I have! Unfortunately for me, that diet would be unsustainable. Especially knowing that each tortilla is on average 100 calories and 15 grams of carbs. That’s why every time I visit my mom (Tia Lupita!) in Mexico, I bring home cactus tortillas, a better for you, healthier alternative to regular tortillas. With only 30 calories per tortilla and five grams of net carbs you can eat three of these bad boys versus one regular tortilla. And as if that wasn’t enough, you are eating something HEALTHIER! Rich in super nutrients. Try them, make yourself some tacos, quesadillas or enchiladas. You will love them. And remember Green is life!

TOTOPOS

...the chip you didn't know you were looking for...

Toto-what? Toe-toe-poes. This is the OG word for tortilla chips, its origin is Aztec (Nahuatl). Tlaxcaltotopochtl is a combination of two words, tortillas- tlaxcalli and fry or toast-totopochtli. And that was your awesome fact of the day. So what makes our Totopos so great? We are 100% grain free! There is no corn or wheat or gluten in our tortilla chips. Made out of roots and plants like Nopales, our crunchy totopos are entirely plant-based and tastier than anything else on the market (humble brag)! They are great source of fiber, and overall a better for you chip. Pair them with our amazing hot sauces or try them on their own or with dips, queso, hummus, or as a substitute for crackers in your cheese plate. You don’t have to sacrifice taste to eat healthier!
