Friday Feature: Sophia Vergara

Hispanic Heritage Month celebrating Sophia Vergara by Tia Lupita

Today we celebrate the talented and stunning Sophia Vergara. Sophia was born in Barranquilla, Colombia and grew up in a loving Roman Catholic household. She emigrated to the United States in 1998 after the tragic murder of her brother, eventually settling in Miami. She is now an US citizen, after earning a perfect score on her citizenship text.

Vergara broke through in the Farrelly Brothers’ movie The Three Stooges, her first leading role in a major film. She has gone on to star as the loveable Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in ABC’s comedy Modern Family, for which she has been nominated for 4 Golden Globes, 4 Primetime Emmys and 11 Screen Actor Guild Awards. She has been the highest paid television actress over the last 7 years and was also the highest paid Hollywood actress in 2020. Recently she has become a judge on America’s Got Talent.

We are proud of her perseverance to overcome the tragic loss of her brother and for working to become one of the most influential Hispanic Americans in the world.
